The Notebook is a romantic drama based on the bestselling book of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, an author well known for his critically acclaimed romantic novels. The film initially takes place during the summer of the 1940’s and stars Ryan Gosling as Noah Calhoun and Rachel McAdams as Allie Hamilton. Although they appear to be two fun loving teenagers at first, the two characters have many differences. Noah is a poor lumber worker from an average income family while Allie is the smart promising daughter of a millionaire. After first meeting at a fair where Noah dangerously climbs up a Ferris wheel to ask Allie on a date, the chemistry begin the two quickly sparks. They begin to spend every waking moment of the day with each other which is a problem for Allie’s mother, who disproves of a poor boy like Noah. At the end of the summer the two end their long relationship and Allie and her family move to New York where she attends college for 3 years. Noah on the other hand stays and begins to become wealthy. Allie meets a new man in New York and is soon to be married, but by a twist of fate, she sees Noah in a news article and decides to come see him. When she arrives the romance that started so long ago when they were teenagers lives on. This movie captivates me because I think we all remember our first true love and no matter how hard we fight, they will always have a place somewhere in our hearts.
