My roommate was dating the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Her brother was in my fraternity, and our fathers had worked together previously. I would take every moment possible to spend with her that I could. My roommate would sometimes even send us to the store together to pick up stuff so that he could finish getting ready, etc.
She began to ask me to set her up with someone, and I would offer up this friend or that friend. She always had an excuse why that person wouldn't be right. Then, one night, while outside of our apartment, I was talking to her and her friend. Her friend finally blurted out that she liked me, and wanted me to ask her out instead of fixing her up with one of my friends.
I looked at her and asked her if that was true...she said it was. I leaned over and kissed her. We ended up going on a 20 minute date later that week. Her parents were rather strict and did not want her dating me because I was 5 years older than her.
The next weekend, she went to a concert, and got into an argument with her mother, and needed to stay at our apartment Friday night. She went back home Sunday, and came back to "visit my roommate" on Thursday. While she was there, and he was in the shower, I asked her to marry me. Out of the blue....just like that, not even sure what made me do it. Even more surprisingly, she said "YES!".
I went the next morning and picked up 3 rings, and picked her up after that. When I picked her up I got down on one knee to make it official. We went to the courthouse in the next state over and got married. That was 17 years and 2 months ago. We now have 2 beautiful children, and I can honestly say that neither one of us regret our rash decision to get married so many years ago.
