I trained to run a marathon a couple of years ago. It was a huge thing for me to take on because it was something I had always thought about doing and thought I couldn't do successfully. I was not in any shape to be running, much less for several miles. I started training on my own almost a year before the actual run. It was very, very hard at first. I could barely run down the block. One thing that helped a great deal was visualizing myself as if I had already run the marathon. A friend had suggested this. I layed out my specific goal and the steps I knew I would have to take to get there. I also thought regularly about how I would feel once this goal was accomplished and what it might lead to next. This gave me inspiration everyday to keep training. I was running in a stretch by the end of my training. And by the time the marathon came around, I almost felt as if I had already accomplished it. I think it was incredibly easy for me on the actual day because I had spent so much time visualizing that moment and preparing for it. I finished with a decent time and felt amazing afterward and I can't wait to do it again!
