Dead Poets Society
When asked about a movie that has changed something important in my life, I instantly think of Dead Poets Society. It is all about changes - and boy, what changes has it made!
It was shown to me by my boyfriend several years ago, when I was still a teenager making her first lasting friendships, and I've seen it several times since then - each time with one of my pals. Somehow, I've always attracted great people - but with really low self-esteem, struggling in their lives and often depressed.
But we all wanted changes; our behavior has often been seen as a teen angst by our conservative parents, but what we've really fought for was following our own beliefs, being true to ourselves and chasing the dreams of being who and how we really wanted to be. Dead Poets Society has played a big role in encouraging us to do so; we've resembled the characters a lot - young and troubled, bound by the expectations of the world around and lack of confidence in our own value. And as the one who's always believed in following one's heart's desires, I might have just been the John Keating to the rest, leading our little rebellion to speak our souls out loud. In the end, we've all changed for the better, we've learned to think for ourselves and live by what is really important to us.
Lately, I've met someone new - a person resembling us in the past so much. I think it's time to rewatch this inspirational movie and let the magic begin again...!
