A beautiful Mind
I watched "A Beautiful Mind" at a time when I was in emotional turmoil. My beloved older daughter was given a diagnosis that devastated me, and lead me to believe that the only alternative was for her to live under a bridge. Needless to say, I was depressed myself.
A friend asked me to the movies, and against her better judgement, this movie was the one I chose.
It was amazing! Yes, I cried, and the main character had a difficult life, but he had joy in that life and he contributed positively to society. It gave me hope that my daughter could do the same.
It showed me that mental illness doesn't define the person, that a person isn't just a group of symptoms. A person with mental illness can lead a productive life, within societies parameters and contribute positively to the greater good.
This movie did change how I live my life. It gave me hope.
