Waiting for "Superman"
Waiting for "Superman" is a very inspirational and moving story about the education system and how much it really lacks. This movie changed my life because as an Elementary Education major it showed how important it is for me to engage, involve, and show them the path to the later years in life because the elementary years are a gateway to the future. The movie really zooms in on the American education system and provides factual statistics on what the education system is like from behind the scenes (teacher qualifications, unions, and being able to get in to private and charter schools) to the children and the families on the front lines who are just attempting to get the best education that they possibly can to provide a strong foundation. Waiting for Superman shows the struggles to get into charter and private schools especially when the families are on a limited income.
Children who live in poorer neighborhood are shown struggling to get into to charter schools where there are sometimes very few spots, but doing anything that they can to get away from the teachers who only care about their time and tenure and now the actual education of the students that they teach each day.
I believe that this is movie that anyone who cares about what is going on in the school system should watch, not just for entertainment, but for a real look at what is going on and so they can remember that these children are our future and the foundation that we are giving them is failing them.
