The Passion of the Christ
I was always in the church ever since I was young. When you grow up in the church your whole life, service becomes more of a ritual than anything else. I think there is less of an appreciation for what is being said and attentiveness is not where it should be.
When I saw The Passion of the Christ which starred Mel Gibson, I realized that I had read the same story a bunch of times and never envisioned it to be that way. The extent that He was treated in the movie was past anything I could fathom before watching it though. I never made a visual image of what had happened before. It made me visualize biblical events a lot more graphically than I had before which increased my understanding of the Bible. Along with that came a better concept of what church is supposed to be about.
