The movie tells the story of a moving friendship between the protagonists, a rich paraplegic and a penniless, unemployed immigrant living on state welfare. The movie explores the subtle attraction between them under the cover of comedy. Philippe is the rich paraplegic who wants to claim his right to happiness and joy, wanting only one thing: to be left to live with out being crushed under the weight of sympathy of those around him. Driss is a young black immigrant who is released from prison and wants only one thing: a signature in order to retain his unemployment benefits. In a surprising twist of fates almost accidently, despite himself Driss becomes an auxiliary to Philippe. The movie showed me how beautiful and moving relationships can blossom in unusual places based on mutual respect and friendship. At a different level the movie very subtlety showed me how everyone is a victim of fate at different levels, while Philippe is a physical victim, Driss is a social victim. The resulting Black Humor is very enjoyable and thought provoking.
