Joy of Sharing
by Nalini Vittobane
When I was 11 years old I got an opportunity to visit a street children home along with my school mates. Though I was not much interested to go there I was forced by my school teachers to compulsorily participate in the trip. As soon as I reached I was surprised to see the tidy environment maintained by the street children there. Each of us were segregated in groups and were asked to pick up a street child and get along with them to know about them. My friends as a group joined together to find a suitable child to interact with us. I was just gazing at the garden, a small child came near to me and asked my name. I started interacting with him and was attracted with his humorous speech. I came to know that his father passed away and his mother got married to someone and he was left abandoned. We became more interested in knowing about him and started interacting more. We gave him so many biscuits and chocolates to eat. Suddenly he flew away somewhere. We tried to follow him and were startled to see him sharing all the snacks with his friends and other children and he was left empty handed. A cute little three years kid opened the biscuit and gave him few to eat. That was an unexpected scene for us. After which my thoughts and perception towards life totally changed. I understood the joy of sharing.
