Help the Deprived to get peace of mind
(Balasore, Odisha, India)
I am a school teacher and I teach chemistry. I take extra classes at home also so that I can earn some extra bucks. I am quite popular in my town because of my teaching ability. An interaction I had with one student changed the way I look at life.
One evening I was having a cup of tea when the door bell rang. When I opened the door I found a student of age about 13 on my door step. I asked him to come in and what I could do for him. He told me he does not have money and his parents are poor. He is weak in chemistry and can I teach him without any fees. I asked him what made you think I will say yes. He politely said "mam the worst thing that can happen is that you will say no, which would have been the case had I not asked you at all. Therefore from no where I am riding on my hope and may be God in you will say yes to me." During entire conversation he was looking right into my eyes and I cannot forget those eyes. It was an eye which was asking kindness with sincerity.
I said yes to him and that day I realized there are so many poor students who can be helped to help the society. That face of the student and his voice made me think about those deprived ones. That day onwards I made it a point that I will have at least 5 of my students in extra class belonging to this deprived ones. I started that for about 2 years and when I shared the same incident with few more teacher, a suggestion came that may be we few teachers can combine to start a organization specifically to help such needy students.
Rest is history and today we are running an institution named Karuna to teach such students. As on date we have 52 students and we are 12 teachers now. With Gods grace I hope like this more and more like minded people will come forward to help such deprived ones to give equal chance to all.
